We run our services through a close-knit network of small, multi-occupancy Registered Care Homes and separate, single-occupancy Specialist Resource Units. We also have our own education unit.

These secure, well-equipped and well managed locations are all in South or West Yorkshire and provide a variety of environments to suit different ages, backgrounds and individual needs. Crucially, they are warm, welcoming homely environments to which our residents can bring their own personal touch.

Barwick House

Manager's Profile:

Vicki joined the company in October 2015 as a manager. She has a diverse background of supporting people with mental, emotional and behavioural difficulties and has worked in a variety of settings in the UK and abroad including a school, a secure children's centre, and a Youth drug and alcohol rehabilitation unit. She has management experience since 2011 and has utilised her knowledge and understanding to lead the team in building a safe, nurturing, and homely environment. She prides herself on being very child-centric and has a firm belief in advocating for the rights of children to ensure that they receive the opportunities they deserve.

Staff Profile:

Enthusiasm and sincere commitment are the universal qualifications in this large team, which has to be able to work with a huge range of individual needs in an extremely lively, homely atmosphere. The team is approximately of equal gender and most of the staff are full-time, which helps ensure consistency and continuity of care. The team members have different levels of experience and a variety of qualifications and the high staff ratio means that support and advice is always close at hand. Another advantage of having a large team is the wealth of opportunities this opens up for the young people. There is always someone to share and encourage a particular interest.

Clarion House

Kirsten Davies

Description:

A warm welcome is guaranteed to any young person who comes to Clarion House, with its homely feeling and highly motivated staff team. The team has a strong belief that every young person is an individual and should be treated as such, in a non prejudiced and non judgmental way. The team devises and implements individual care packages which support and maintain the social, emotional and cultural needs of any individual young person.

The staff team promotes positive role modelling, and work along side multi agencies to guide young people to reach their full potential in life. The staff team is of mixed age and gender with various academic qualifications as well as life experiences. Clarion House also has two fully qualified teaching assistants who can use their skills alongside The Dove School to devise and implement accredited individual education packages for young people to access. With all these skills available from within the team, it enables young people to develop the skills to experience life in a positive way.

Manager's Profile:

Kirsten started with Dove Adolescent Services in 2004, joining the Clarion House team as an RCCW. Kirsten then completed her NVQ Level 3 and 4, displaying enthusiasm for enhancing her role and responsibilities within the organisation. In 2009 Kirsten was given the opportunity to cover a year’s maternity as an Acting Manager in one of our other 2:2 homes. This was extremely successful, therefore Kirsten was promoted to Registered Manager of Clarion House in 2010, and is nearing completion of her Leadership and Management Certificate. Kirsten is also the course facilitator of Life Story for Dove Adolescent Services.

Staff Profile:

Clarion House has a highly motivated team with a strong commitment to giving our young person the care he or she needs and deserves. In addition to the team's collective experience in providing care, ongoing training ensures that they have the specialist skills needed to fulfill this aim. Access to Consultant Psychologist gives staff supervision and support in implementing therapeutic care packages.

Denby House

Neill Robinson

Description:

Denby House is a three bedroom dorma bungalow close to Horbury town centre, with a kitchen/dining room and lounge. The home also has a front garden and paved rear garden area. Denby Dale is ideal for young people who like to enjoy a wide range of activities. Water parks, youth clubs, sculpture parks, libraries, sports centres and swimming pools are all nearby, as well as a steam railway; and it is close to shops and supermarkets.

Neill Robinson

Manager's Profile:

Neill joined in 2005 after leaving university. He began working at Ivory Villas, where he was part of a team who achieved an Outstanding Ofsted inspection, before moving onto Barwick House as Deputy Manager in 2009. In January 2011, Neill took over as Acting Manager at Denby House and assumed the position full time in June 2011. During his time with us, Neill has accessed various training opportunities such as NVQ level 2, 3 and 4 in Health and Social Care and NVQ Level 4 in Leadership & Management in Care, as well as the NVQ Assessors Award.

Staff Profile:

Denby has a full staff complement of six people. At all times at least two people work together in any 24 hour shift period to maintain consistent care. We also have access to specialist services, such as psychologist teams, and staff are trained in the use of therapeutic techniques to monitor and control behavioural problems. Denby’s aim is to work alongside the young person in their care to integrate them back into group living, or, where appropriate, to promote independence in preparation for leaving care. This will include providing assistance with educational needs, whether in mainstream schools or in specialised units.

Dove House

Stacy Cooper

Description:

Dove House is a six bedroom detached bungalow with a large rear garden and a substantial front driveway area. The rear garden is enclosed making it ideal for outdoor activities and summer BBQs. We continue to build upon the facilities in and outside of the home.

Dove House is a registered four bedroom residential children's home which accommodates young people of both genders aged 8 to 18 years of age with emotional and behavioural difficulties.

There is also a separate small building which is utilised as semi independence training flat (Dove House is therefore registered for 5 young people). The home is situated within easy reach of local amenities, town centre and within close proximity to the M1 motorway.

As a whole, the property consists of an open plan living room/dining room, which is a very flexible and sociable space. There are further separate areas which flow from this space and include the kitchen with utility area and education room.

There are six bedrooms in total four of which are young people's bedrooms, one is used as the staff sleep room and the other is a staff office. There is also a bathroom and a shower room. Within the grounds we have an outside office and a semi independence training flat.

Stacy Cooper

Manager's Profile:

Stacy joined us in 2001. She quickly showed her confidence and ability as a Residential Childcare Worker and progressed through her NVQ Level 3 and 4 awards in Health and Social Care.

In 2006 Stacy successfully applied for the position of Registered Manager at Jasmine House and is clearly showing her abilities. Stacy has achieved her NVQ Assessor's award and ILM levels 4 & 5. Stacy facilitates staff training and is a pro-active member of the management team. She is very adept at assessing and was one of the fore runners in moving forward with the new Diploma award for staff within the organisation.

Stacy has recently enrolled upon the ILM Level 7 award as part of her continued commitment to professional development, leading her team by example. Stacy was then selected to become the Registered Manager of Dove House, to continue her professional development and provide the large new home with an experienced manager. Dove House was successfully Registered November 2013.

Staff Profile:

We provide a high level of support and understanding in our approach to care, giving young people the opportunity to work through emotional or behavioural problems. Change is achieved by empowering modification of unacceptable behaviours, by the development of new skills through focused work, role play and appropriately supervised activities, and by setting goals for personal and educational progress.

The staff team at Dove House are trained in supporting the development and provision of a therapeutic environment. The team members have been allocated with specific skills in mind providing a varied age and gender basis to support our social pedagogic approach to care delivery. The team dynamics enables a consistent approach to care delivery meeting the needs of the young people living at Dove House.

High View is a registered 2:2 home based in the Barnsley area. It's situated within easy reach of local amenities, Barnsley town centre and within close proximity to the M1. High View is a detached residence with large rear and front gardens ideal for outdoor activities and summer BBQs. The gardens to the rear include a trampoline and vegetable patch. At High View, we endeavour to ensure that a warm, homely environment is created to inspire young people to feel safe and secure; everything is centered around the individual needs of the young people living at High View.

I have worked at Dove Adolescent Services Ltd since 2008 and during my employment I have gained relevant qualifications to enhance my knowledge and skills base. I have gained various qualifications to support my role which includes NVQ Level 3 and 4 and Diploma Level 5 in Leadership and management. I have recently just completed A1 assessor's award which enables me to assess the staff teams Diploma. I have completed my PTLLS Level 3 and NVQ Level 3 Teaching and Supporting Learning in Schools; this qualification enables me to support the educational attainment of young people who live in the homes.

I have attended all relevant in house training in accordance with the organisational policies and procedures, which includes Appointed Person for First Aid, I am also trained to assess my colleagues in emergency first aid at work Level 2.

I have gained valuable experience working within different homes which have varied occupancy levels, working at 2:2 home gave me the opportunity to work with young people who have complex needs and require a higher level of supervision. Working in a 2:2 home provided me with the experience of managing the dynamics of young people sharing an environment, the importance of balancing the differing needs of two young people and how to appropriately safeguard them whilst promoting a shared environment is a difficult task.

Staff Profile:

This is a small but multi-skilled and diverse staff team. Employees are committed to being positive role models and working in partnership with multi-agencies, parents and other significant others, to the best interests of the young people in our care. The high staff ratio allows for consistency in approaches and the development of individual care packages. This supports the cultural, emotional, educational and social needs of young people. There is a emphasis on implementing skills and knowledge gained through training such as life story, focussed work and behavioural management. The staff team hope to support young people to develop a sense of self-worth and the appropriate life skills needed to move forward positively.

Ivory Villas

Ivory Villas is one of our 2:2 units. We find that two young people to two members of staff best suits the needs of certain young people in our care. Ivory Villas itself is a detached, four bedroom property with two lounges and a playroom. There are many amenities close by and lots of different activities for young people to get involved in.

Manager's Profile:

Angela joined us in 1998, starting in our multi occupancy unit Dove House. She quickly showed her people skills and the ability to communicate on all levels. She became Deputy Manager of Dove House before moving on to be the Registered Manager of Ivory Villas. Angela has achieved NVQ Level 3 and 4, NVQ for Managers in Residential Child Care and has recently gained her ILM 5. Angela is a qualified NVQ Assessor and is part of our in house training team. Angela is also a qualified Intermediate Team-Teach Instructor and delivers the training along side her colleague. Angela and her team are very proud that they have achieved Ofsted Outstanding Status for the last five years.

Staff Profile:

Our small staff team aims to offer good consistency of relationships to the young people in its care. The team has a recognised track record of success in working effectively with difficult to place young people, using appropriate behaviour modification and other related techniques to help develop life skills and improve their sense of self-worth. The team are of mixed genders, ages, experience and life skills and due to this can provide an holistic package of care to the young people. The team have either qualifications in NVQ Level 3 and 4, ASDAN COPE and Training Assistants Award as well as the in house training they attend, or are working towards these and the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce. Access to a Consultant Psychologist gives staff supervision and support in implementing therapeutic care packages as well as working alongside other professionals in Multi-Agency working.

Jasmine House

Jasmine House is a registered 2:2 occupancy children’s home providing a homely, safe therapeutic environment with 2:2 support for young people who are unable to live in a group setting. Jasmine House is easily accessible from Barnsley Wakefield and Rotherham, providing ample venues and opportunities to explore and participate in a varying amount of leisure activities. Accessible amenities include local leisure facilities, swimming pool, snow dome, ice-skating rink, bowling, cinema complex and it is within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales and Pennines for countryside walks.

Jasmine House is a modern detached property with a large garden to the rear. It is a four bedroom home with a family bathroom and downstairs W.C. The living and dining area is a large open-plan space with French doors to the rear garden. There is a spacious kitchen with breakfast area.

Debra Boldy

Manager's Profile:

Debra Boldy joined Dove in 2011 following 2 years working with young adults with Autism. After working at Ivory Villas, where the team received Outstanding every year, she moved to Jasmine House in February 2014 to support the team and current senior while developing her skills enabling her to commence the Senior role in February 2015 within Jasmine. Following this Debra was appointed Manager in January 2016. During her time with Dove, Debra has attended all in-house training and completed her Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management as well as Diploma in Assessing. In addition, Debra worked as a teaching assistant within the company, sharing her passion for ICT with students and supporting them to achieve qualifications in this area. Debra is eager to continue to develop, attending training courses offered externally to the company in order to further her skills and working closely with NSCAP to support the young people in her care.

Pennine View's primary aim is to provide a high quality residential experience. Pennine View hopes to achieve this by having a high staff ratio that is committed to being positive role models to the young people within our care. The daily routine of the home is centered on the individual needs of both the young people and the family. We undertake extensive on-going training and utilise therapeutic techniques in line with individualised care plans. Dove School

Description:

The school occupies a terraced house and offers teaching and resource rooms, a quiet room, kitchen and access to open space nearby. It provides a friendly, well-equipped setting for one-to-one work with young people. Subsequently her experience has been mainly across the age range of 14-16 as pastoral leader, working with special needs pupils, moderate learning difficulties, emotional and behavioural difficulties and challenging behaviour. She also has extensive experience post 16 options, work experience and UCAS applications. Prior to taking up this post, she worked in mainstream schools teaching ages 11-16.

Dianne Lodge, Director

Dianne has worked in residential care since 1983. She was employed by Wakefield Social Services for 13 years, working with various client groups aged 3 to 18 years. Dianne was intensely involved with the development of the leaving care team during her time with Wakefield.

Dianne places great importance in the training and development of her staff team and was proud that this was recognised when the organisation attained the Investors In People award and a training award with the local Chamber of Commerce. In 1995 Dianne gained her Certificate in Management Studies and in 1996 her Diploma in Management Skills at Huddersfield University. In addition, Dianne has completed various training throughout her career, which includes child protection, supervision skills and health and safety etc. Dianne is also a qualified T.D.L.B. Assessor and Internal Verifier and in addition has attained her Team Teach Advanced certificate and recently achieved her Training for Trainers certificate.

Dianne's skills to the organisation lie in the recruitment and selection of her staff teams and organises and facilitates training for the whole teams. Dianne believes that the success of the company lies with her staff team and a motivated, multi-skilled team can only be positive in the caring of young people today. Dianne's priority is that her teams offer the best quality of care possible to demanding and damaged young people who we aim to equip to integrate into society.

Director's Profile:

Barbara Whittaker, Director

Barbara has worked in the arena of residential social work since 1976 covering a variety of client groups and care settings, including management within a Local Authority 24-bed Observation and Assessment Centre. In 1979 Barbara gained her C.R.C.C.Y.P. followed in 1992/93 by her D.P.Q.S and in 1995/96 an M.A. in Social Work and Social Care (Management Elective) at Bradford University. Additionally, these have been supplemented by a wide range of in-house training throughout her career, including Supervision Skills and her certificate in Counselling. Barbara is a qualified T.D.L.B. Assessor and Internal Verifier. As well as gaining her Professional Trainers Certificate and advanced Team-Teach Instructors Certificate Barbara has also been a Practice Teacher for a number of local universities, offering the DipS.W. programme.

With the ongoing business development Barbara’s skills in personnel management, project management, quality management and financial management have also developed. The theoretical basis of which is underpinned by the M.A. and more recently with her involvement in working for and maintaining the company’s IIP status and recent IIP Gold Status.

Barbara has been an active member of the Wakefield and District Care Consortium since 1993 and a member of the Management Board since 1994 and promotes and facilitates N.V.Q. training at all levels within the organisation.
