Referrals & Admissions

We accept referrals from both local authorities and independent providers of care services for young people. Those who come to us are aged between eight and seventeen; they may be male or female; and they typically have a complex history and multiple needs.

If you are looking for support for a young person in your care, it’s worth contacting us for general advice and support. You may like to download and complete our Referral and Risk Assessment form (MS Word 46Kb).

Crisis Placements

We accept emergency placements, but this depends on unit availability, individual needs and the circumstances of the crisis. In short, it’s not how we prefer to do business – but we are well equipped to handle this type of placement.

Where we can’t take an emergency case, at the very least we will be happy to offer advisory support and retain the young person's details for possible future admission.

Planned Admissions

In our experience, short cuts have a nasty tendency to lead to blind alleys. So our admission policy is designed to get things right first time by taking one careful step at a time. This will begin with a discussion with one of Dove Adolescent Services’ directors and managers and potentially finish with a pre-placement visit. At every stage we look at whether we can provide the necessary service and whether the potential newcomer decides whether he or she feels able to make a commitment to working with us.

Any young person welcomed to a Dove Home will be there because everyone concerned believes it’s the right move and is committed to making it work. Whether the plan is to provide a ‘time-out’ period of four weeks or a long-term solution offering the time, space and support to prepare for leaving care, once we’ve accepted a mission we don’t let go.
